Young producer Awaga talks about new Riddim, music with Stonebwoy and more

Albert McCarthy

The  young  Ghanaian producer, a recent addition to Stonebwoy’s team, call them the BHIMnatives of BHIMNation Albert McCarthy operates under the professional name Awaga. He has been working with the team and Too Easy Studios for as far back as 2014 until June 2016 when Stonebwoy officially broke up with resident producer Beatz Dakay.

The mutual understand gave Awaga the chance to be behind the song “We Made It” which featured Mugeez of R2bees fame but his presence wasn’t felt until recent claims popped up that Stonebwoy no-longer working with Beatz Dakay.

We can talk of Awaga’s production with Stonebwoy back in January 2016, ‘Live in Love’ was also a part of the Living Stone EP which made it to list of ‘Best Reggae Album’ for Grammy Voters to consider for the top five. Awaga was also the creative mind behind Stonebwoy’s Guy Guy which featured highlife act Bisa Kdei.

He has been in our midst for a while and for the rest of the year and more, he’s going to be the talk of town like DJ Breezy, Kill Beatz and the likes – no doubt but what does he say of the break up between his two bosses? It’s simply not his business as both parties only play a part in his career.

Since his introduction by Too Easy Studios’ boss Beatz Dakay (Stonebwoy’s former resident producer), Awaga has been learning music production and whilst we caught up with him in an interview, he revealed he is also learning how to mix and master songs so that he can fully take control over his works without having to give anyone the credit.

His reaction when asked “Can an Awaga production be called a production without a Dakay Mixed?” was very clear. He simply have to lean on Dakay for a longer time till he gets things right with mixing and mastering. But that’s just one bit of him appreciating Beatz Dakay. Nothing more to it.

“I am still in the learning process, I don’t mix and master song now, I am now learning how to do that. Beatz Dakay does all my mixes for now”
“Beat Dakay is my boss who taught me everything I know today and am still learning” I’m glad we crossed paths” he said.
Amid the controversies, Awaga reveals he is not a ‘Stonebwoy’ producer as he currently hold no position in the team.
“I work with Stonebwoy and any artiste who needs my services. I have recorded DXD, Eye Judah and others so i’m opened to all.”
“My production strength is not only dancehall, I’m up for greatness with other genres too.”
Stonebwoy doesn't inspire me - young producer Awaga reveals

Stonebwoy and former Resident producer Beatz Dakay

He continues; “I learnt music production from Beatz Dakay and because he works with Stonebwoy, there was a higher chance I could work with Stonebwoy one day when my boss retires. I do not regret working with BHIMNation ”

For one thing that will amaze you about this young producer, unlike other youngsters who have inspirers, Awaga is not inspired by anyone. Not even Stonebwoy’s music can inspire him or Beatz Dakay’s hot productions. He just enjoys everything they bring out.
“No one inspires me. Maybe someone do inspires me but it’s definitely not Stonebwoy or Dakay. The person who inspires me, I don’t know”
“But then again, anything can inspire anyone depending on how one looks at it.”
Although he denied snatching his boss and former resident producer Beatz Dakay role, he insists they have a very good relationship and everything is well. Beatz Dakay is yet to comment on these happenings at an appropriate time.

Awaga coupled with Stonebwoy have worked on a dozen #1 hit singles yet to be released and in wait of that, he promises an unbelieveable music project that will propel him into the future; the SHANTI RIDDIM which features 18 artistes including Stonebwoy, Iwan, Eye Judah, Renner, Jah Lead amongst others. It will be available in March he says. Their biggest hit currently making rounds on airwaves is ENKU LENU which was mixed by Beatz Dakay.  Grab your headphones, stream, download and enjoy below.
