Vodafone Airtime started our beef – Wutah Kobby
The new normal in 2016 is the comeback of many popular music groups. After the heartbreaking news broke that Psquare had broken up, many local groups have hinted their reunion for what they claim “the fans miss.”
Here in Ghana, the news circulating over the weekend had it that the two known in showbiz as Kobby Wutah and Afriyie Wutah were planning to comeback since fans for decades now haven’t heard from them.
Although Wutah Kobby and Afriyie have reacted to reports that they have reunited. According to them, they are still in the process and haven’t finalized things and this debunks earlier reports that they have reunited.
However, a rather disturbing revelation seals their comeback and there’s little or no hope for their comeback.
What fueled their unending misunderstanding started with the Vodafone airtime which was given to Afriyie when he won the VGMA Male Vocalist of the Year in 2013. Afriyie was given GHC200 worth of airtime and as kind as he was, he shared 25% (40GHC) with his partner Wutah Kobby but it this didn’t go well with Kobby who wanted more or equal shares.
It’s was unclear when Afriyie reiterated that the group would be coming back but not now.
“I don’t know the source of that, I don’t know who wrote that but I have said this several times that we are working on a comeback but not yet.”
But another revelation popped up when host of the AM PLuzz, Sammy Flex asked both artistes (on 5thApril16) what the way forward was for Wutah’s come back. Afriyie said “this should not happen on National radio but what I can say is we must work on our egos”.
Wutah Kobby also added that there’s nothing like egos here the only thing am saying is this is my last time am speaking about this issue I rest my case”.
What many doesn’t understand is the line these two former teammates are drawing. From one angle, it may be seen as these guys need publicity to continue their solo careers, other angle reveals they are really planning a come back with the current hype they are enjoying. Sources close discloses they have both been featured on a new song produced by Appietus as Wutah not Kobby and Afriyie. So I ask, if they are not back, why are they acting like they are… more to come!
