Iwan Peace Concert; For Cash or To Promote Unity

Iwan Peace Concert; For Cash or To Promote UnityAbdul Razak Issahaku, he goes by the popular name ‘I-Win-Always-Naturally’ Iwan.
Iwan is known for creative sustainable records that doesn’t fade away easily and also noted to be part of most social charitable activities.

The Kumbungu artiste aside his reggae artistry led the Help Portrait 2012 edition where he performed to the children of Trinity Home Academy in Tutu up the Aburi Mountains.

Back in 2013, he again led a tall line up of artistes; Asem, Oj Blaq, Yaa Pono, 55, Trigmatic, Episode, Scientific, Ephraim amongst others to wrap up Iwan 4 Unity concert at the Tawala Beach located behind the La general hospital.
Amid all the distress from the industry friends and family see him go through, the Gideon Force leader has tried to win some fans with his music and charity activities.

Earlier this year (Jan, 2016), Iwan came under managerial criticism with his former manageress Agatha Oduro who terminated Iwan’s contract because he was so cash-demanding as compared to his passion to complete his music works. This accusation followed other problems which led to the early termination of his two-year contract with Jahsig Family, an international record label.

The Lyrical Gunshot act amid all his woes went ahead to release some great songs currently enjoying airplay and social media buzz.

Although he hardly get gigs to play, he’s currently promoting his yet-to-commence peace concert which comes off this Saturday (17-04-16) and he hopes to use this event to bridge the gap between the fighting few and the calm community ahead of the forthcoming election.

What seems to be a good initiative has been marred by a fighting soul yearning to reap in some unnecessary dough hence rubbishing the peace agenda the event themes.
Sources alerted bjrlivefm.com early this week to find out if it’s best to pay before you mount a stage aimed to promote peace. We quickly made checks to verify the truth and oh-la-la, the 100gh fee to ‘register’ artistes rounded our conversation with one fo the team members, Spanky.

Well, often most events organized in Ghana only target the profits and nobody really cares about the impact it will have on society and this has helped erupted baby events flying here and there – the new normal with less aim.

Maybe it’s time to take a look at the PEACE in most of the acclaimed concerts when especially these so-called peace concerts are money joints for some events companies.

According Iwan’s Peace Tour, the train hosts top-notch musicians both in Ghana and outside and it will start from the Northern sector through to the Southern part of Ghana with focus on the public to appreciate the significance and uphold peace during the November 7 general elections.

But then again, the organizers failed to mention that if an artiste hopes to support, there’s a price tag for they opting to support. From our chart it seems this price tag is limited to only up and coming artistes, so for indie acts, you need to pay your way through before you contribute your peace quota to nation building -sad!

This act is very unprofessional and its goes a long way to tarnishing headline artistes image but they also care less about the whole image tarnishing saga because ‘it’s all about the money” #FireBondem.

Whereas artistes are given platforms to speak their peace words through their songs to the populace elsewhere, here, it’s the other way round. You either pay to join or you forget! What a menace!

Although cost may not be covered fully for the tour/concert, by default, this initiative has been given some funds by the executives taking into consideration the ‘artistes coming from diaspora” so why on earth will an event organiser continue to disgrace himself and the whole music sector in this manner?

Maybe these Peace concerts are talent hunt platforms so performing two songs for 100 Ghc is cool.

Is Iwan’s Peace Tour for the MONEY or it’s really aimed at promoting PEACE ahead of the election? To be honest, I haven’t seen the effect or impact of previous peace events organized by Iwan and its contribution to the nation’s peace building.
It’s even absurd for the Gideon Force’s team to charge any artiste on their stage taking into consideration their minute contribution to the industry.

It will be best for Musiga and other music bodies to begin some checks that will help sanitize activities in the music industry.

The whole PEACE word associated with the event and the organizers charging each indie artiste 100 Ghc before they mount stage doesn’t make sense. I believe if Iwan and his tour organizers need funding for their acclaimed peace tour, they can use the right means instead of tinting the image of Ghanaian music industry.

The world has evolved and odd issues like these need to be abolished. We need to embrace change and support the growth of the industry positively and stop being rude to creativity.

“We all believe music is a strong tool that can be used to preach peace. My expectation after the tour is that the public will understand the Peace we are enjoying and not to be divided by political affiliation during the election period” – Iwan.
