Ghana coach Avram Grant says he deserves the credit for rebuilding the Black Stars which he claims was damaged after the trauma of the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.
His claim is likely to infuriate many of his critics who say he has not transformed the team since taking charge as he inherited most of the players in the squad from his predecessor.
The former Chelsea manager took charge of the Black Stars in December 2014 after the sacking of coach Kwesi Appiah.
The Israeli manager then guided the team to reach the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea under just two months.
It was the first major competition for the four-time African champions after a bonus row and indiscipline rocked their tournament in Brazil.
“I received the (Black Stars) team in a bad state and redid it,” the former Chelsea coach told an Israeli radio station.
“We win most of the time, except the qualifiers in the last game when we missed a lot of key players.”
Grant has an impressive record with the Black Stars since taking charge of the team by winning 11 matches, drawing four and suffering two defeats.
However, his critics claim he is yet to face some of the tough teams in Africa like Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt which can truly test the Black Stars.
Grant’s critics further claim that he has only discovered three players in Kwesi Appiah, Daniel Amartey and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh.
His predecessor is credited with the presence of players like Baba Rahman, Jeff Schlupp, Christian Atsu, Mubarak Wakaso, Afriyie Acquah, Jordan Ayew and many more.
