A gang of masked armed robbers, on Sunday dawn, embarked on a robbery spree at Gomoa Akotsi-Ojobi and Gomoa fetteh in the Central Region, shooting and stripping passengers naked.
Some passengers who spoke to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said the robbers mounted a road block on a portion of the Ojobi to Gomoa Fetteh road to aid their operation.
According to one of the victims, Ebenezer Amoako, a driver, the incident occurred on Saturday dawn. He said the robbers stopped many vehicles and ordered everyone on board at gunpoint to lie down and surrender their belongings.
He added that passengers who were hesitant were flogged and later stripped naked by the armed robbers.
He noted that the armed robbers shot twice at a vehicle whose driver attempted to escape leading to some passengers sustaining gunshot injuries. “The robbers came from a nearby bush and attacked all vehicles on that road. They stopped our vehicle and others and started robing us. They asked all of us to lie down and started searching every part to the extent of stripping us naked, all in the name of robbing us.
He continued that “Even the ladies in the bus were all stripped naked. They took off my trousers and even my boxers and robbed us of every belonging and also fired gunshots.
The driver said the robbers fled the scene before the police arrived.
They blamed the bad nature of the road to this robbery incident.
The drivers have therefore threatened to demonstrate against the contractor if the blocked road is not fixed.
Meanwhile, the Ojobi District police commander ASP Osei Fofie who confirmed the incident said his outfit has begun investigations into the matter.
