A Huge music awards ceremony returned to London after 21 years. The MTV EMAs saw the cream of the music industry descend on London.
Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards – plus who won what…
The glitzy bash took place on Sunday November 12, 2017, at the SSE Wembley Arena with Stormzy, The Killers, Demi Lovato, Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello all billed to perform.
Among the celebs presenting the gongs were Natalie Dormer, Madison Beer and Sabrina Carpenter. Shaun Mendes was the big winner of the night while Eminem made way with the Best HipHop award leaving room for Kendrick Lamar to grab the best Video Award for his hit record ‘Humble.’
The 19-year-old Canadian teenager took home the most prizes at the Europe Music awards, while Taylor Swift left empty-handed despite six nominations. He took home the prizes for best artist, best song, best Canadian act and biggest fans during the ceremony at London’s Wembley Arena.
They have both been nominated for the award at least two times each.
Davido was performing in Angola’s capital Luanda this weekend so didn’t make it to the ceremony. But he thanked everyone, including his mother, in an Instragram post:
“OMG I JUST WON BEST WORLDWIDE ACT MTV EMA!!! I’m going madd!!!!! 2 EMA’s !! Whaaat!!! !!”
The other contenders included South Africans Nasty C and Babes Wodumo, Kenyan Nyashinski and Angolan C4 Pedro.
Other winners at the event, which celebrates the international music scene, included Coldplay (for best rock act), Dua Lipa (for best new act) and Zayn (for best look). Despite receiving six nominations – the most of any artist – Taylor Swift failed to win any awards.
The ceremony was hosted by Rita Ora, who at one point sported a dressing gown on stage. She also collected the inaugural power of music award on behalf of the artists involved in Simon Cowell’s Grenfell Tower charity single, a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water.
