“When the bully gets bullied…” “You meet your meter” “D-Black is finally out of the zone”… amid other rants has been the order of the days after the release of the unexpected spoken word record – ‘The List’.
Ghanaians are very honest people and from what the comments have been in the past days, everybody disagrees with the MTV Base list which named rapper D-Black as part of the top 10 rappers in Ghana but really? He just proved most of the critics wrong with The List…
The List, a responding diss record to a member of the FOKN BOIS duo, Wanlov the Kubolor after he tried smashing D-Black’s dignity with his naked words calling him Ghana’s wack emcee.
Well, according to Wanlov, it’s sad for MTV Base to include D-Black while we have great rappers like Medikal, Joey B, Mensa and more. On Facebook, he posted, “wow @MTVBaseAfrica u still added d-black wen we hav medikal, joey b, yaa pono, m3nsa,…how sad…btw it’s Omar Sterling … not stelling”.
Whilst the list contain some uncensored words, many will attest to the fact that this record would have been another mess if it came with an instrumentation. Instrumentation… brings us to the question ‘Should D-Black begin to record more spoken word records’? This is what his fans love him for and what the world has accept as his strength so judging from his recent performance, there’s more room for improvement.
Whether Mr Black will switch from mainstream rap to compete with the likes of Rhyme Sonny, Mutombo, Nana Asaase, Chief Moomen and the rest in the spoken word industry, it’s a situation to be solved some day.
