Adom FM’s Morning Show host, Captain Smart once again went ‘crazy’ on his favourite segment of the show, ‘Fabewoso’ after reading of how the management of the Koforidua Polytechnic blew huge amounts on sitting allowances.

The 2012 edition of the Auditor General’s report on the Public Accounts of Ghana Polytechnics stated that Members of the Council and the Committee were paid a sitting allowance amounting to GHC613,523.90.

“Members of the Council and the Committees during the period under review were paid sitting and monthly allowances amounting to GHC613,523.90…,” the report read.

The payments, according to the report were not supported by any approval from the Finance Ministry.

“We however noted that the payments of these allowances were not supported by any approval from the Finance Ministry.

“Management is yet to respond to our recommendation to seek approval from the Minister of Finance in the payment of allowances to the Council and Committee members.”




After reading this shocking revelation, the vibrant host questioned the reasoning that went into the decision as according to him, the management had no reason to blow such huge amounts on sitting allowances.

His ‘madness’, he said stemmed from the fact that the institution has been having diffculty settling its bills, with the Electricity Company of Ghana, for instance, cutting off power in August 2015 for non-payment of bills in excess of GHC 790,000.




Captain Smart could not believe why an institution which owed such huge amounts of money would even think of wasting so much money on sitting allowance, suggesting that this wasteful practice had not stopped ove the years.
