Fans of Yvonne Okyere are likely to see less of the actress in movies as she takes a new direction in her legal career. Yvonne was among new lawyers who were called to the bar last Friday, 2nd October 2015.
Yvonne Okyere’s call to the bar follows an impressive performance in her post-call Law exams at the Ghana Law School. She was one of only 17 students who passed the final exams in June after months of studying.
Yvonne had been in England for years where she had studied and practised Law but returned to Ghana last year to study Ghana’s legal system, as it was a requirement. While in school, she announced her comeback to the movie industry when she played the role of Rachael in Love Regardless and won the award for Most Promising Actress at the 2015 Golden Movie Awards. She has also been nominated in the 2015 GIAMAs which be held on 17th October in Houston Texas, USA.
However, Yvonne Okyere has hinted that she would not be seen on screen as often as her fans would wish. According to the award-winning actress, her commitment to her firm, where she is now working, is her topmost priority and it comes first. As a corporation commercial lawyer, it would be quite a challenge to double as a full time actress and therefore she will only accept very good scripts that will demand only weekends to shoot.
In a brief interview with ghkwaku.com concerning how her recent promotion will influence her acting career, she said:
“well, i think with the scheduling of my job as a barrister at the moment, it will be extremely difficult to be acting on the side but then again, this term of my course is for 6 months so we’ll see after that, hopefully I’ll return because i’m passionate about acting a lot and I can’t imagine stopping”.
“I will be taking up a few roles every now and then once the payment is good.”
